Sai Baba first came to Shirdi as a very youngsage. He was first spotted meditating under a Neem tree. This place was very dear to Him and later came to be known as ‘Gurusthan’ which literally translates to ‘The place of the Guru’. Nearby the Gurusthan, a big portrait of Sai Baba is placed. On the side is a marble statue of Sai. In front of the portrait is a statue of a Shivling and Nandi. The leaves of the neem tree are considered to be very sacred but it is the roots which is more important.Below the tree are four sacred mystical lamps denoting Sai Baba’s sacred lineage. This tree has been carefully protected from more than a century ago. Circumambulating this tree 9 timesor more with faith and patience and with the utterance of the Guru Mantra “OM Sri Sai Nathaya Namaha” is sure to give one peace of mind as well as the grace of Guru Sai Baba.
